Message from the Volunteer Coordinator:
I hope everyone is staying warm in this snowy weather. The March schedule is looking pretPersonNamety open, but most of the month will be spent planning events for the National Volunteer Month in April. Please make sure you take note of the April activities. Also, we have been invited to meet Governor Manchin in April to honor volunteers for their dedicated service to terminally-ill patients.
Congratulations to Our Volunteers of the Month!!
March Volunteer Chaplain of the Month: Doug Hogan

•Meet and greet with Governor Joe Manchin; date/time to be announced.
Competency Evaluations:
Thanks to everyone for turning in your competency evaluations; 2007 was great year!
Email-Last Reminder:
If you are interested in sending me your report logs electronically, please email me at tia@mountainhospice.com. Emailing reports: open the file in Microsoft Word; type in your visits; save the file; attach the file to an email; and send it to me. Due to confidentiality, do not type patient names on logs; only list the patient ID number.
Awareness 1,000:
•Awareness 1,000: This is a word-of-mouth campaign. I personally challenge you to tell at least 5 people about your hospice volunteer experience. The campaign will launch in each county starting in March. Details for each county are as follows:
•Barbour: We will be a having an Awareness 1,000 Campaign kick-off party March 12th at the Philippi City Building from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. The party is called “Swing Into Action” with a 50s inspired theme and will include free food. Numerous participating agencies will offer free services, i.e., hemoglobin checks, cholesterol checks, blood pressure checks and glucose checks.
•Randolph, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Grant, and Tucker: The Awareness 1,000 Campaign will kick off on March 17th with a campaign sign setup in the yard of the Elkins office.
Pocahontas County - Please Read:
We are currently looking for home service volunteers in Pocahontas County. Please spread the word about this critical volunteer need. If you know someone that might be interested, please email or call Tia.
All Counties - Important Message - Please Read:
If you are involved in group or church organization that needs speakers, Mountain Hospice would enjoy speaking at your next meeting or social. Our staff can do a 15-45 minute presentation about all our services and can include a time for questions by the audience.
Announcements:
Volunteers who are past due for TB Tests will continue to receive monthly reminders. Remember if you are past due, you will not be able to visit patients. A number of volunteers stated they had TB tests for their food handler's card. This is fine, but I must receive a copy of the food handler's card; copies may be faxed to:
ATTN: Tia at 304-823-3926.
TB reminders will be sent out three months in advance of your yearly due date. Mark your calendars, and call the office to make sure we have ample vaccine on hand.
If you know anyone that is interested in becoming a part of the
Mountain Hospice Volunteer Team, or if you need a question
answered, please call Tia Stevens-Hovatter at 304-823-3922 or
1-888-763-7789.
